7,000 more Boholanos in crisis outside to get emergency aids

Boholanos In Crisis

ALMOST 7,000 additional recipients of the province’s financial aids to the stranded Boholanos offshore will get their cash assistance. Of them, 1,982 will receive the aids at P2,000 each anytime while 5,000 others have their assistance already validated.

The Offshore Boholanos Coordinating Team (OBCT) of the provincial government also already identified 4,030 more qualified respondents to the call of Gov. Arthur Yap to avail of the emergency cash support.

As of last week, almost 2,000 stranded Boholanos, mostly students and displaced workers, in Cebu and other provinces received their aids totalling to P3.95 million.

“We are aware that thousands remain stranded who want to come home” and “we cannot close our borders to returning travelers forever,” Yap said at the press conference at the Capitol on Friday.

But while arrangements have been worked on until the right time for their homecoming to be allowed, the government has been extending them financial suppport. Yap cited the aids to them from the LGUs also amounting to P4.082 million and the DSWD totalling to 4.146 million.

In all, already 8,616 Boholanos in Cebu and other provinces were assisted at a sum of P12.150 million and the aids will continue for those who applied and will qualify. Many of them have thanked the government for attending to their needs while the governor himself thanked for their patience in the midst of the abnormal trial.

Aid priorities are stranded students and displaced workers. Like the distressed and returning OFWs, they will also under strict quarantine and testing protocols. (Ven rebo Arigo)
