The Cebu City Government has released since Monday, July 13, 2020, the P1 million financial help to each of the 80 barangays in the city to aid them in buying rice, food packs and other necessities for their residents.
“Ang maong financial assistance gastuhon alang sa pagkaon, tambal, vitamins, PPEs ug masks basta may kalabutan sa atong pagpakigbatok sa COVID-19,” Atty. Rey Gealon, Mayor Edgardo Labella’s spokesperson, said in a press briefing on Monday.
“Gisugdan na ang pag-apod-apod sa maong ayuda nga maoy gamiton sa atong mga kapitan ug konsehal pagpamalit sa panginahanglan para sa ilang mga molupyo,” he added.
Gealon said the recent aid is on top of the first round of monetary support, around 300,000 sacks of rice, and personal protective equipment extended earlier by the City Government to the barangays.
The city’s top 10 most populated barangays received P3 million each earlier. These include barangays Guadalupe, Mabolo, Mambaling, Lahug, Tisa, Basak San Nicolas, Lahug, Labangon, Inayawan, Bulacao and Quiot.
The next 10 most populated barangays have received P2 million each: Apas, Kamputhaw, Basak Pardo, Cogon Pardo, Kalunasan, Punta Princessa, Kalubihan, Barrio Luz, Kinasang-an and Duljo Fatima.
The rest of the 60 barangays are receiving P1 million each.
Cebu City Mayor Edgardo Labella has directed the immediate release of the monetary aid to help barangays fund the needs of their constituents, especially those severely affected by the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) measure against COVID-19.
Barangays are to spend about 80% of the money on food items for their residents and 20% on protective personal equipment and supplies.
The City Government has sourced the monetary support from its 2020 annual budget under the aid to the barangays. (Cebu City Public Information Office)
