One of the DILGโ€™s frontline services is the Processing of Death Benefit Claim.

Pursuant to Executive Order (EO) No. 115, barangay officials who died during their term of office are covered by death benefit claims nationwide. The DILG Cebu Province Team is conscientious in processing and release of the benefits authorized by law to the beneficiaries of deceased barangay officials who served their communities faithfully.

Last 2018, an interactive online processing of death benefits was introduced for faster process flow and endorsement from field level to Central Office and vice-versa. This was the Barangay Information System (BIS), a system that gathers, stores and maintains data on barangays accessible by DILG field officers at www.intranet.dilg.gov.ph. All claims for death benefits are processed and settled online by DILG after receiving request or application from beneficiaries at DILG field offices.

Since July 2018 to (present time) this day, a total of 104 death benefit claim applications from the Online BIS have been processed, endorsed and claimed by the beneficiaries at DILG Cebu Provincial Office.

The Provincial Focal person monitors daily the transit of the application for claims in the online BIS and immediately process it within two days upon receipt. For updates of DBC applications, DILG field officers can directly check from their intranet accounts.

Beneficiaries of a deceased punong barangay can receive P20,000 for death benefit and P2,000 for burial expenses. Meanwhile, beneficiaries of a deceased member of a sangguniang barangay, including its Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) chairpersons as ex-officio members, barangay secretary and barangay treasurer, can receive P10,000 death benefit and P2,000 for burial expenses.

Recently, the DILG Cebu Province initiated on allowing the beneficiaries to claim their death benefit claim in their respective cities and municipalities coursed thru the DILG field officers for easier transactions.
