CEBU CITY – The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI-7)-Central Visayas Consumer Protection Division inspected some malls and establishments in Cebu City Sunday to check the veracity of complaints from public for selling overpriced non-medical face shields.

DTI-7 said that they have identified two tenants allowed by the mall/establishment to sell face shields (FS) at the three entrances.

The agency bared that the non-medical FS with eye frames are sold at P55.00, which is still within Department of Health (DOH) suggested retail price (SRP).

According to DTI-7 that under DOH-Department Memorandum No. 0345, a 10-percent allowable variation to the SRP may be added to account for the distribution cost for the Visayas and Mindanao areas.

The other FS being sold are NOT covered under the specifications for non-medical grade FS set by DOH in the above-mentioned memorandum such as those with caps, hats, goggles, acrylic material and other features.

Consumers are advised to exercise their right of choice, DTI-7 said the agency will continue to assist DOH in monitoring the price of covered FS and their available supply. So far, there is adequate supply of non-medical FS for community use, DTI-7 added. (Photos: DTI-7/Jojisilia Villamor)
