The Provincial Government of Ilocos Norte (PGIN) once again distributed additional garbage compactors and cash assistance to all cities and municipalities in the province, through a Ceremonial Signing and Turnover activity held in front of the Provincial Capitol Building, Laoag City, last March 29.
The distribution of garbage trucks and assistance is a project of the Environment and Natural Resources Office (ENRO) under the “NariMAT nga Aglawlaw” environmental campaign of PGIN. It aims to further intensify the implementation of the Solid Waste Management (SWM) Program throughout the province.
Out of the 23 component local government units (LGUs), 17 have received a garbage compactor each, while the remaining recipients were granted cash assistance amounting to P2.5 Million, which will be utilized primarily for their initiatives concerning the environment.
Last December 2020, all LGUs have initially received similar assistance from the Provincial Government to challenge them in the improvement of their waste management.
“I’d like to thank our ENRO for putting together this event, and for working on these long-awaited compactors. We have numerous delays due to COVID-19 but we’re happy that our compactors are finally here. We hope that our good mayors will take care of them and maintain them para tumagal, and most importantly, use them in an appropriate way, particularly in waste segregation,” Gov. Matthew Marcos Manotoc stated.
The Provincial Government continues to expand its environmentally sustainable and “green” initiatives through other projects such as the construction of Plastic Recycling and Materials Recovery Facility (PRMRF), and the conduct of Search for Cleanest and Greenest Competition, among others. – Stewart C.
