Improving productivity and enhancing creativity through the use of technology are among the goals of the upcoming ArchTechCon 2023 scheduled to start on Thursday, March 23, 2023 at the Robinsons Galleria.
The ArchTechCon 2023, will bring together key figures who are generating a range of creative solutions using the latest innovations in technology for the built environment. The projects that will be presented during the conference range from small scale interventions and large developments, will highlight how shifting values, emerging technologies and new concepts are driving the future of architecture.
The conference is organized by the United Architects of the Philippines District C1 and spearheaded by the UAP Datu Lapu Lapu Chapter headed by Ar. Arnell Barrera.
Ar. Buck Richmond Sia, UAP District C1 director, explained that the event aims to focus on how technology can be used to strengthen their profession in architecture, engineering and construction industry.
Technology, which have been there for quite some time, can help create increased productivity for architects as well as improve how they build and the quality of what they do to benefit the clients and society, Ar. Sia said.
In answer to the question of mismatch between skillsets and industry requirement, he explained that both the academe has been incorporating technology in the curriculum and the industry players need to adopt to technological advancements.
“Industry players need to adjust to the current skillset of the graduates and vice versa. We challenge industry players; they need to attend (this event) because its high time for them to adopt. Everyone needs to adopt,” Ar. Sia pointed out.
Ar. Dennis Mayo, one of the speakers and will discuss the topic “Building Information Management, noted that artificial intelligence can help enhance the creativity in architecture.
Ar. Mona Alcudia who will also among the speakers at the conference, added that the industry players have to learn how to deal with AI and try to understand it, using tools and machine as a way to upskill professions. “What is important is how to leverage AI and technology.”
The conference features a workshop and lectures. On March 24, 2023, Ar. Bryan Auman will hold a workshop on Bamboo Lashing for Beginners from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm also at the Robinsons Galleria.
The workshop is organized by the USCARS and UAP Student Auxiliary (UAPSA). The registration fee for those who would like to attend the workshop is P500. The inclusions are the exclusive lecture on bamboo architecture, hands-on bamboo lashing experience and bamboo lashing materials. At the end of the workshop, there will be prizes for the best bamboo lashing output.
The ArchTechCon Lectures will be held on March 25, 2023, starting at 10:00 a.m. Ar. Annie Cuizon will discuss the City Planning and Development Office (CPDO) Online Locational Clearance System. At 11:00 a.m. Ar. Mayo will tackle Building Information Modeling.
In the afternoon of the same day, there will be four lectures starting with the topic Integrated Energy Performance Analysis using various computational analytical tools by Ar. Rowell Shih at 1:00 pm. The lecture on Digital Fabrication Human-Machine Collaboration by Ar. Buddy Lim Ong and Ar. Mona Alcudia will follow at 2:00 p.m.
At 3:15 p.m., Ar. Neil John Bersabe will take up Artificial Intelligence in Architecture while the last topic Digital Mapping and Analytics will be discussed by Ar. Kristian Zhen Cruz.
Registration for the lectures is limited to 200 people only. The registration fee is P500, which is inclusive of free lunch and snacks. To register for the lectures, please click on link:
