Tayasan, Negros Oriental – Starting the year right! The Barangay Nutrition Committee of Cambaye, Tayasan culminated the Idol Ko Si Nanay (IKSN) session on 30 January 2024 at the Barangay’s Covered Court. BNC Chairman/Barangay Captain Hon. Dorothy B. Ponteros together with the Barangay Kagawad, Committee on Health and SK Chairperson led the said culminating activity. The IKSN Learning Session was participated by sixteen (16) mothers/caregivers of undernourished children, pregnant and lactating women.
Idol ko si Nanay Learning Session is one of the programs of the National Nutrition Council that aims to provide a holistic community-based intervention through nutrition education and promotion for behavior change to prevent malnutrition. The session is composed of different modules including caring for the woman/mother before pregnancy, during pregnancy, and after pregnancy. It also contains caring for the newborn, importance of breastfeeding and complementary feeding and other nutrition and health related topics for the First 1000 Days of Life.
During the activity, Barangay Captain Ponteros emphasized the importance of nutrition in our day-to-day lives especially to the vulnerable groups. The BNC Chairman also ensured everyone present that the Barangay Nutrition Committee of Cambaye, Tayasan will keep on giving their full support to the nutrition programs to be conducted in their barangay.
Out of the twenty-eight (28) barangays in the Municipality of Tayasan, Barangay Cambaye is the first barangay in 2024 to organize IKSN Learning Session. Other twenty-seven (27) barangays are expected to follow this initiative of Cambaye.
