A symbolic Chinese New Year ceremony unfolded today at Shangri-La Mactan, Cebu, marking the arrival of the Year of the Wood Snake with time-honoured traditions. Esteemed guests in attendance included Mayor Junard “Ahong” Chan and Congresswoman Cindi King-Chan of Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu, and Judy Dela Cruz Gabato, Regional Director of the Department of Tourism – Central Visayas.

The ceremony commenced with a traditional Dotting of the Lions, a custom that invites prosperity for the year ahead. Dave Junker, General Manager of Shangri-La Mactan, along with the resort’s Executive Committee, and the honoured guests participated in the dotting. An energetic lion dance performance, complete with the tossing of gold coins, then ensued, filling the air with an atmosphere of excitement and luck. This was followed by the joyous Yee Sang tossing, a ritual act that enhances unity and togetherness. The ceremony concluded with a luncheon hosted at Tea of Spring, the resort’s celebrated Chinese restaurant, for the invited special guests and members of the media, where they enjoyed a curated menu of festive dishes prepared by the restaurant’s acclaimed Chinese Executive Chef, Liu Zhijun.
