RAMSE ARCENAL
Two years have passed since the world came to a halt due to the Covid pandemic, leaving children with limited space to play and little to no time to spend outside in the sun. Boredom has overshadowed young children all over the world; one is fortunate if they have internet access and a bigger home, so children have more opportunities to play, run around, or simply watch television all day. What about the children who live on a remote island with little to no internet access? Their own little house turns into a prison.
The Rotary Club of Mandaue East agrees with the studies, that children who play outside are more self-aware and most importantly, aware of others and their feelings. It demonstrates that children who play outside are less likely to bully other children. Outdoor play frequently requires imagination and teamwork, which allows children to interact positively with one another.
The Rotary Club of Mandaue East(RCME) led by RY2021-2022 Club President Chicklet So Fulache fully supports this study and has come up with a brilliant solution to one problem by solving another. Seeing a lot of un-recycled old tires all over the city, the idea of making swings under a beautiful tree, colorful tires as jumping obstacles and finally, putting together a playhouse with a slide thus allowing children to be free and letting children as they should be.
RCME has always been a strong supporter of Isla Verde. This is a small island with 50 households and close to 600 residents of which more than half of the population are children. The island is accessible from Danao port in the northern part of Cebu. . On May 14, 2022 (Saturday), one week after the Philippine elections, our Club took action and traveled to the island with playground equipment for installation.
This would not have been possible without the generosity of our benefactors, to whom we will be eternally grateful. Children’s playground set donated by Foto Jaya Studio.
