Globe, Skytower opens partnership on tower lease

Marking a milestone in business collaboration between the Philippines and Thailand, Thailandโ€™s Ambassador to the Philippines Tull Traisorat recently hosted a dinner to celebrate the partnership between Globe and Skytowers Infra Inc., a Philippineย subsidiary of Thai firm Sky Tower Plc.

The Thai envoy hosted Globe Group President and CEO Ernest Cu and Skytowers Infra Inc. CEO Theerachai Leenabanchong, along with members of their respective management teams for dinner at his residence, toasting to the partnership between the two companies and the long-standing relations between the Philippines and Thailand.

Globe officials present were Chief Commercial Officer Issa Guevara-Cabreira, Senior Vice President of Network Planning and Engineering Joel Agustin, and Vice President of Site Lifecycle Management Network Group Michelle Ora.ย  The Skytowers team, meanwhile, was composed of Director of Operations and Business Development Benjamin Zoghi; Director of Finance and Corporate Support Services Gloria Dazo; Directors Orn-in Sangthong and Taksaorn Sereedeelert; and Business Development Manager Ninlakarn Nimitpattana.

“This partnership represents an important step in improving digital infrastructure in the Philippines, and we are excited to work with Skytowers to bring sustainable solutions to the market. We look forward to further strengthening our relationship with Thailand in this venture and other areas of collaboration,โ€ said Ernest Cu, President and CEO of the Globe Group.

He also thanked the Thai Ambassador for hosting a celebration for the two companies.

Globe and Skytowers signed a lease agreement covering several towers in Southern Luzon on February 6, 2022.ย  This is in line with Globeโ€™s overall strategy to monetize passive assets to maintain a healthy balance sheet.

Complementing Globeโ€™s sustainability efforts, the tower company is determined to reduce its carbon footprint by using renewable energy to lessen fossil fuel consumption.

The partnership is a testament to the strong relationship between the Philippines and Thailand and their commitment to promoting economic growth and development. Globe and Skytowers are now exploring the possibility of expanding the latterโ€™s tower lease in the Visayas and Mindanao areas.

During the dinner, the Embassy of Thailand also shared its program in tourism, food security, and enhancing Public Private Partnerships (PPP) to expand new businesses and implement programs in the country.

Thailand is one of the Philippines’ major trade partners and a significant source of rice imports. Both nations continue to promote economic cooperation in areas such as agriculture, digital infrastructure, micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs), renewable energy, and healthcare services. The Philippines and Thailand will celebrate their 75th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations in 2024.

Skytowers Infra Inc. is affiliated with Electric Power and Telecommunication Infrastructure (STOWER), which has extensive experience in engineering, design and manufacturing of infrastructure build. It offers telecom services and T3 Technology for broadband/Fiber optic solutions in markets such as Thailand, Malaysia, Vietnam and Indonesia.
