Informal settlers and minimum wage earners in Cebu City will be the beneficiaries of the Cebu City South Coastal Urban Development Housing Project that will be located at Alumnos, Basak San Nicolas.

President Ferdinand โ€œBongbongโ€ Marcos Jr. led the groundbreaking ceremony for the project held February 27, 2023.

The first phase of the Cebu City South Coastal Urban Development Housing Project will comprise 10 20-storey buildings within a 25-hectare development site that will benefit around 8,000 informal settler families (ISFs) and low-wage earners in the City, the Philippine Information Agency Region 7 posted on its website.

Speaking during the groundbreaking ceremony, the President said the project is an initiative or flagship housing project of the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD) called the Pambansang Pabahay para sa Pilipino Housing (4Ps).

He said the government plans to build one million houses each year for a total of six million houses by the end of his term to address the housing backlog in the country, which he considers as a great challenge but not impossible to accomplish.

The President explained that his administration would to ensure a safe environment and productive community. Aside from the housing community, he said there will also be facilities including schools, markets, health centers and structures for livelihood.

According to the DHSUD, this is the fourth time since last year that President Marcos Jr. joins the Department in launching and inspecting housing project sites. The groundbreaking in Cebu City is the 16th of such events since the 4PH was launched in September 2022.
