CEMEX Holdings Philippines, Inc. (CHP), a leading cement manufacturer in the Philippines, achieved a notable performance in the S&P Global Corporate Sustainability Assessment (CSA) 2022, ranking in the 76th percentile of the Construction Materials industry.
This is the first time that CHP participated in the CSA, and it performed well several ESG dimensions, such as Talent Attraction and Retention, Occupational Health & Safety, Operational eco-efficiency, and Business Ethics. This is the first time that CHP participated in the CSA, ranking above industry mean for Environmental, Social, and Governance and Economic indicators.
The S&P Global CSA is an annual evaluation of the sustainability practices of over 10,000 companies around the globe, across different industries covering environmental, social and governance (ESG) criteria. The CSA results are used to determine the composition and weighting of the Dow Jones Sustainability Indices (DJSI), one of the most prestigious global benchmarks for corporate sustainability.

Meanwhile, CHP also released its 2022 Sustainability Report (SR) magazine titled “Shaping the Future.” The magazine is an offshoot of the 2022 Sustainability Report of CHP which details CHP’s progress in terms of developing innovative solutions that contribute in building resilient infrastructure, climate-smart urban development, promoting economic growth, preserving the environment, and improving everyone’s quality of life. Further, it has the targets and progress in its Future In Action program. This is the company’s plan going forward in achieving sustainable excellence through climate action, circularity, and natural resource management. In 2022, we achieved 18% reduction in CO2 emissions in the last two years (2020-2022). Cemex’s ultimate goal is to become a net-zero CO2 company by 2050.
Highlights of the report include the achievement of the following:
- 68% of cement sales volume come from our Vertua low-carbon cement
- 400k tons of total waste managed was reached, which is significantly more than the non-recyclable waste we generated
- 28% alternative fuels substitution avoiding use of fossil-based fuels
- 13% of electricity from Solid and Apo cement plants come from low carbon electricity sources
- more than 30 local government units are working together with CHP for innovative and effective waste management systems
