Sen. Lito Lapid and his son Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority (TIEZA) COO Mark Lapid visited the enchanting landscapes and hidden gems of Camotes Islands this weekend.
Hosted by Cebu Gov. Gwen Garcia,ย Suroy Suroy Sugbo (translated as โWander Around Cebuโ) is one of the tourism programs of the governor that aims to attract local and foreign tourists to visit the province and boost the economy of the host municipalities.
Local government officials welcomed the visitors at every itinerary stop, and the townโs best talents performed. Stalls showcased each townโs unique products and traditions.
This year, Garcia accompanied the senator and his son in the Camotes Islands, visitingย Pilar and San Francisco municipalities.
Camotes Islands comprises three major islands and one minor islet, divided between four municipalities. On Poro Island are the municipalities of Poro and Tudela. Pacijan Island’s sole municipality is San Francisco. Ponson Island’s sole municipality is Pilar.
The father and son first attended the event in Pilar where they were greeted by Gov. Garcia, Mayor Manuel Santiago and Vice-Mayor Chiziline Maratas.
Before going to the event, the Lapids went to St. Francis Church to pray.
In Pilar, the Suroy Suroy Sugbo program was attended by about 300 guests including some foreign tourists who visited the island on board Ocean Jet Ferry.
The Lapid family next attended a short program at Lake Danao, San Francisco,ย at around 3:30 p.m. Mayor Alfredo Arquillano, Jr.,ย and Vice-Mayor Aly Arquillano welcomed them.
Vacationers and tourists enjoyed water rides, zip line, islet hoping and viewing, fishing, horseback riding, agro fair display, palo-sebo, and pottery making in San Francisco.
The Lapid family thanked local officials led by Gov. Garcia for the warm welcome.
Sen. Lapid promised to allocate funds for several projects and aid to residents in the towns of Pilar and San Francisco.
